Why Join the Lido Class Association?

Often new members to a local Lido Fleet ask other members why they should join the Lido Class Association at the National level.  To the novice, the organization at that level seems remote and unrelated to the local sailing scene. Nothing could be further from the truth!

The Lido Class Association:

Signals to all, inside and outside the class, that this one-design sailboat is an active and viable class, not another dead in the water boat.  As such it …

Protects the resale value of your boat, your dollar investment.  A Lido is a great investment in your recreational dollar as it can be used for many years with nearly all of the original investment recovered.

Promotes National, Regional, and District Championships that would not exist without its guidance and certification.  These competitions are a mainstay in making the class visible and alive, plus they're great fun to attend!

Regulates class measurement and racing rules that make for fair racing and settles disputes that could otherwise disrupt the class.

Maintains a Lido Class Association Website which provides timely information on all class activity such as the class calendar, regatta notices,  racing results, classified ads, and much more.

Publishes the class newsletter, The Bow Wave, which reports on activities such as major regattas, racing results, measurement issues, go-fast boat-tuning techniques, reports of individual fleet activities, suggestions on how to promote and expand your fleet, and activities of the Board of Directors.  It also contains sources of sails and equipment for Lido sailors.

Provides a formal link with the Lido class manufacturer, W.D. Schock, to promote and keep the one-design nature of the class intact.  The development of the 6000 series (new style) Lido, represents a remarkable achievement that is a testimonial to the workability of this concept.

Works with the United States Sailing Association (www.ussailing.org) to promote one-design racing and to promote and regulate racing in this country and abroad.

Publishes the Class Handbook each year, which contains the following:

1. Class Officers' Names and contact information.
2. Organizational Details of the class.
3.  List of Fleets.
4.  List of all class members, boat numbers, and fleet membership.
5.  Individual fleet listings of officers, members, boats, & addresses.
6.  List of former Class Champions and other annual trophy winners.
7.  Latest boat measurement diagrams and dimensions.
8.  Advertising from Lido sailmakers and equipment dealers.
9.  Class organizational By-Laws and Boat Measurement Rules.
10.  List of Approved and Disallowed Changes to boat equipment.
11.  Member Roster by boat number for reference.
12.  Various enlightening photos and graphics.

Who would want to own a Lido without access to such information?

In Conclusion, every Lido owner owes it to themselves to join and support the Class Association. It's an investment in your fun, your boat, and your future.
