Super Bowl Regatta

January 28, 2006

Hosted by Anacapa Yacht Club (Oxnard, CA)

If the Super Bowl next weekend is anything like Fleet 43’s Super Bowl Regatta, don’t miss it. Twelve teams, including boats from Mission Bay, Newport Beach and Marina Del Rey helped to make this year’s regatta one of the best ever. The short courses challenged everyone who attended and placed an emphasis on starts and boat handling.

With 12 races sailed, every team had good and bad races and it was almost impossible to keep track of your score, let alone anyone else’s. Needless to say, the racing was tight with all twelve boats seeming to get to the marks at the same time.

As always, Fleet 43 wants to thank everyone who came from out of town, especially Roger Patterson who delivered one of his boats Friday, which will hopefully become a part of our growing fleet, and then drove back to San Diego to get his boat and was there to race Saturday morning. Also, and which is the norm for Fleet 43, over a quarter of the boats were either skippered or crewed by juniors. Dane and Quinn Wilson helped their dad Craig take fourth in the A division, missing third by only one point. Greg Kent worked hard for his dad Steve helping him get off to a fast start while Robbie Compana jumped in to help Tim Harris take second in the B Division. And finally, Lauren Oliver switched off driving with her dad Gordy. It is only January and she is already getting ready for the Jr. Nationals and Kid’s regatta at Huntington in July.

We hope to see everyone again next year.
