Moderate breezes and attendance marked the beginning of the Mission Bay Yacht Club Fall invitational. Four Races were scheduled Saturday, but after the lunch break following the second race overcast skies ended the usual sea breeze and the wind clocked south and got very light and shifty. The 4th race was postponed and the dinner party started on schedule. Stu Robertson entertained all with his tales of the experiences of sailing in the Championship of Champions and the day ended with expectations of 3 good races Sunday to sort out the close scores at the top of the A fleet.
The Sunday racing began with a good breeze from the south (unusual) which clocked slowly to the west but never let up. Dave Carroll and Stu Robertson went into the final race with a whomever beats the other wins the regatta (one race toss out) situation. The Skunk team (Carroll & Naff ) messed up at the start big time trying to cause a weather end jam and the contest was resolved with the Skunks spinning donuts, fouling the ground tackle of the starting boat then catching a 10 foot strand of bull kelp, while the fleet, Robertson leading, disappeared toward the weather mark.
The B fleet score was also settled in the final race with a tiebreaker between Randy Carper and Alexa Kownacki.
The C score was settled early on as Doug Clark and Diane Foster opted out to make cornbread for the awards feast.
Chile, chips, and cornbread accompanied the awards presentation which ended up in a rousing "Hooray to Roger" cheer for Roger Patterson to celebrate his somethingth birthday.
