2002 W.D. SCHOCK MEMORIAL REGATTA


Notice of Race
 

1.         RULES

1.1        The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2001-2004, the prescriptions of US SAILING; the
rules of each of the classes, except as any of these are changed by the Sailing Instructions, and by this Notice of
Race and the Sailing Instructions.

 

2.         ELIGIBILITY

2.1        The following boats are invited to enter: 
             Ocean Area: Schock 35, Schock 40, Santana 30/30, Santana 20
             Bay Area:  Harbor 20 A & B, Lido 14 A & B, and Lehman 12 A & B
     
             For this regatta only the skipper must be a member of US Sailing or a recognized club under ISAF.
 

 

3.         ENTRY AND ENTRY FEES

3.1        The following entry fees will apply to entries postmarked on or before February 23, 2002:
Boats 10’-19’     $50                               Boats 26’-30’     $100                
Boats 20’-25’     $75                               Boats 31’-40’     $125    

3.2       The entry fee includes tickets for Saturday’s dinner based on the size of the boat. (See Social and Meals section for number of tickets included per size category of boat).  For entries postmarked after Feb. 23 a late fee of $20 will apply.  Please make checks payable to NHYC and mail to: W.D. Schock Regatta c/o NHYC, 720 West Bay Avenue, Balboa, CA 92661.  Entry fees will not be returned after March 1, 2002.

5.         REGISTRATION

5.1        A representative from each boat must register with the regatta office between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, or between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2.

 

6.         SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

6.1        Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

 

7.         COMPETITOR’S MEETING

7.1        A competitor’s meeting will be held at NHYC on Saturday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. for the outside race area and 
      11:00 a.m. for the inside race area.

 

8.         RACES & RACING AREA

8.1        The Race Committee will attempt to complete five races for all boats on the ocean course, 6 races for the Harbor 20s, and 9 races for Lehman 12s and Lido 14s racing on the bay course.  Two separate ocean racing areas may be used and the location for each will be described in the Sailing Instructions. The bay course will be in the turning basin in front of NHYC.

 

9.         COURSES

9.1        The courses to be used will be defined in the Sailing Instructions.                                                 

 

10.        HAILING

10.1      The race committees will attempt to hail competitors to announce recalls. In addition, the committee (s) for the
Ocean race area (Schock 35, Schock 40, Santana 30/30, and Santana 20 Fleets) will attempt to use VHF Radios
to announce recalls.  It is still the responsibility of each competitor to ensure proper starting.  Failure of equipment
either on the race committee boat or on a competing boat shall not be grounds for redress.

 

11.        SHORESIDE ANNOUNCEMENT 

11.1       Changes to the Sailing Instructions / Notices to Competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located in
the main hallway of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, as well as on the notice board at Balboa Yacht Club for those
launching from BYC.

 

12.        SCORING

12.1      The Low-Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply with 5, 6 or 9 races scheduled of which two shall be
completed to constitute a series.  Each boat’s series score will be the sum of her scores for all races.

 

13.        CLINIC

13.1      Ullman Sails, Newport Beach will host a clinic on Friday, March 1.  This Clinic is open to all entries in the W.D.
Schock Memorial Regatta. John Papadopoulos will host a clinic for the Lido 14 fleet on Friday, March 1 at 2 pm.
Join us on the deck after the clinics for refreshments compliments of the W.D. Schock Corporation and a chance to talk about your day on the water.

 

14.        LAUNCHING, MOORING & DOCKAGE

14.1      Boats will be offered free mooring, rafting, or dry storage at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club from Feb 25 to March 4.
Advance reservations must be made with your entry.  For early arrival, or late departure please contact Bob
Ledbetter at 949-673-7730.  For extended stay a fee of $0.40 per foot per day will apply.  All boats please register
with the front desk upon arrival, we will make every effort to accommodate you and your crew.  Boats of the
Santana 20 Fleet are invited to launch from Balboa Yacht Club, located at 1801 Bayside Drive, Corona del Mar.
NHYC will provide shore boat service from BYC to NHYC for the skippers meeting. The shore boat will depart from
BYC at 8:45 a.m. and return 15 minutes after the skippers meeting

 

15.        SOCIAL & MEALS

15.1      Friday      Clinic presented by Ullman Sails. Light Hors D’oeuvres compliments of W.D. Schock Corporation

Saturday:    Continental breakfast, included in entry fee.
            Fun, food, and live entertainment at the Saturday night regatta party.

            Complimentary tickets will be distributed to each entry as follows:

Boats 10’-19’ – 2 tickets
Boats 20’-25’ – 3 tickets
Boats 26’-30’ – 4 tickets 
Boats 31’-over – 5 tickets.

            Extra tickets are available for purchase at $15.00 each.

            Sunday    Trophy presentation.  Chili and Chowder buffet included in the entry fee.

 

16.        LUNCHES

16.1      Box lunches will be available at $6.00 ea. when pre-ordered by February 27!.  Lunch includes choice of sandwich, cookie, candy bar, fruit, chips, and water.  Please order on the entry form.

 

17.        TROPHIES

17.1      Trophies will be awarded to class winners based on the number of entries.  Trophies will be awarded on Sunday, March 3, 2002 as soon as possible after the last race.
