Lido 14 International Class Assosciation Championships
(Mission Bay, San Diego, CA) Aug. 3/4/5, 1998This regatta consisted of 3 round robin qualifier races to separate the entrants into Gold and Silver divisions. The split is computed by taking the sum of every competitor's round robin scores and ordering them from lowest to highest and taking the top 50% of the list and assigning those competitors to the Gold flight. The remaining competitors sail in the Silver Flight. In this year's regatta, there were no throw-outs provide in these preliminary races. Each competitor carried their position within the Gold or Silver flight into the 5 race championship series which was raced on Monday and Tuesday. At the conclusion of these races, each competitor had their worst score discarded (this could be their carry over from the prelims). This carry over is show as Race "1" in the results posted below:
The winds for all but the first race of Tuesday were consistent in direction and strength, averaging above 14+ knots (as measured at the Mission Bay Club House). There was substantial chop in the bay with lots of competitors suffering various ailments from the extensive hiking necessary to keep their boat sailing optimally flat.
The Junior Class Championships were held on Saturday and consisted three races. Junior teams include members under 18 years of age.
