Though not advertised as such, this regatta was a tune up for George Szabo and Mark Gaudio for their upcoming Champion of Champions Regatta in Newport Beach. George sailed a new Lido, Randy Lake sailed George's classic Lido, and Mark sailed his own classic too.

The conditions of the first day were very light with lots of frustration shared by all. Day two was considerably more normal but by then the trends had been set.
